The NFRW is 100,000 members strong with clubs in all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. The organization was founded at a conference held at Chicago's Palmer House in 1938.

With the encouragement of Republican National Committee Chairman John D. M. Hamilton, it was organized under the direction of Marion E. Martin, then assistant chairman of the Republican National Committee and National Committeewoman for Maine.

The organization originally was known as the National Federation of Women’s Republican Clubs of America (NFWRC), but the name was changed in January 1953 to the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). At the time of organization in 1938,clubs totaling 95,000 members had applied for affiliation.

Tens of thousands of members strong today, the National Federation of Republican Women is still building its legacy as the "education arm" of the Republican Party. During the 32nd Biennial Convention in Salt Lake City, a series of leadership training seminars, campaign management schools, and political and policy workshops - all taught by well-known and respected experts - will equip and prepare Republican women activists for the 2004 political season and beyond. These women will return home with the tools and training to become successful policymakers, elected officials, campaign managers, politicians, activists, businesswomen and community leaders.

"The Federation is proud of its innovative and intensive efforts to educate Republican women throughout the country," NFRW President Heidi Smith says. "This commitment has endured since our founding more than 60 years ago, and you can be certain it will continue."
